Arrigo Minerbi
Between Liberty and Classicism
CASTELLO ESTENSE - From the 8th of July to the 26th of December 2023
The Ferrarese Arrigo Minerbi, capable of interpreting the Liberty styles and the 20th century Classicism, was the favorite sculptor of Gabriele d'Annunzio. In the twenties and thirties of the 20th century he reached a great notoriety, so much so as to be recognized as one of the "major of our time". In the second half of the 20th century, however, its classicism lost interest.
The exhibition, organized by the Ferrara Art Foundation and the Museums of Art Service of the Municipality of Ferrara, traces the entire production process of Minerbi, placing it in the Italian artistic context of the early 20th century.
His works bear witness to an original temperament, rooted, however, in the artistic debate that accompanied the passage from modernism, to the return to tradition, up to monumental classicism, symbol of the thirties.
The exhibition consists of about 80 paintings and sculptures of monumental format and is the perfect opportunity to rediscover the Minerbian interventions scattered throughout the city of Ferrara, including public works such as the Victory of the Piave in the Torre della Vittoria (1924); the allegorical group The Po and its tributaries of the fountain of the Aqueduct (1932); the funeral monument of Pico Cavalieri at the Jewish Cemetery (1923).
