Spina 100 - From legend to discovery
From the 28th May to the 16th October 2022, the archaeological exhibition specifically for the centenary of the Etruscan city of Spina's discovery (1922-2022).
The exhibition route, at Palazzo Bellini's Art Gallery, will be structured following a rooms sequence that will take the visitor in the discovery of the ancient Etruscan city and its treasure.
Founded by Etruscans on Eridano's right bank, the ancient Po flow, in the middle of the VI century B.C., Spina became one of Athene's privileged harbour in North Adriatic sea, acquiring control on the trades toward all Pianura Padana valley. At the end of the IV century B.C. the city started decline and the Etruscan settlement fell into history forgetfulness. This territory never-stopping changes transformed Delta's landscape and the city vanished without a trace.
In 1922 started the reclamations of Comacchio's valleys territory, in Trebba's Valley, and necropolis' first grave was found. For this reason, the archaeological epopee started, bringing to the discovery of more than four thousands graves and that culminated with Spina residential area discovery in 1956, inspected still today.
