The Vallette of Ostellato

Located not far from the highway Ferrara-Mare, in the town of Ostellato, built in Roman times near a river access roas, now in the center of large cultivated land.

Between the nearby Idrovia Ferrarese and the drainage canals lies the Oasis of the Vallette of Ostellato, ideal for birdwaching, sport fishing, cycling and other activities in nature.

They are the only remnant of the ancient valleys that surrounded the village of Ostellato, saved by the last reclamation of the Mezzano valley and established oasis of weildlife protection. The four valleys are a biotope of a wetland of fresh water peculiar and unique in the territory, especially for the quantity and variety of animals that populate it.

The Vallette of Ostellato is a natural oasis about 10 km long where land and water coexist in perfect harmony making it the ideal place for walks, excursions, birdwatching, fishing and nature photography.

In the Vallette there are 150 species of water birds, a place of rest, wintering and nesting for many species. You can see all kinds of herons (great white, grey and red), numerous wader, including the Knight of Italy, raptors, such as the marsh harrier, the buzzard. The vegetation is typical of the freshwater wetlands, characterized in areas permanently flooded by reeds, white and yellow water lilies, flowered rush. On the banks are white willow, water chestnut and elderberry. The oasis is well equipped for various activities such as birdwatching, walking, cycling, horse riding and fishing. At the entrance there is also an astronomical observatory.

They represent a unique natural environment, they are fully included among the ZPS (Special Protection Area) part of the Rete Natura 2000 for the protection of natural environments and wildlife and subject to the Ramsar International Convention, which provied for the protecion and conservation of wetlands.

The Vallette are part of the Parco Regionale del Delta del Po, in the province of Ferrara, a few kilometers from Comacchio, the Lidi Ferraresi, the city of Ferrara and not far from cities such as Ravenna, Verona and Venice.

The Vallette of Ostellato are recognized as "Service and consultancy centre for the autonomous educational institutions of Emilia Romagna recognised for the 2022/2023 school year with determination n.10941 of 08.02.2022 of the Head of the Development Service of Financial Instruments, Regulation and Accreditation of the Emilia-Romagna Region, referred to in DGR n.2185/2010.
