Ferrara turns the spotlight on one of the boldest chapters in contemporary art history. At Palazzo dei Diamanti, Andy Warhol. Ladies and Gentlemen offers an immersive experience that brings back to life the groundbreaking exhibition Warhol personally presented in Italy in 1975–76 — a pivotal moment in both his career and the cultural landscape of the time.

With the Ladies and Gentlemen series, Warhol broke new ground: no longer focusing solely on polished celebrities of the star system, he placed anonymous African American and Puerto Rican drag queens at the center of his work. Their faces, electrified by vibrant color and expressive energy, speak of identity, freedom, and transformation. This glamorous and magnetic gallery anticipated themes that remain strikingly relevant today: gender identity, multiculturalism, media construction, and the power of image.

The exhibition, conceived and organized by Fondazione Ferrara Arte and the Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries of Ferrara, with the prestigious support of the The Andy Warhol Museum, features more than 150 works — including acrylic paintings, drawings, silkscreens, and Polaroids — from major European and American museums and private collections.

Alongside Ladies and Gentlemen, the journey expands to include some of Warhol’s most iconic portraits: the timeless Marilyn series, the provocative reinterpretation of Mao, the silhouettes of Mick Jagger and Liza Minnelli, and, culminating the experience, a spectacular room of self-portraits in which the artist explores the boundaries of his own identity.
